Gorbals Mick Quits
The Speaker of the House has done what he should have done a long time ago. The question is, did he jump or was he pushed? Actually I don’t care because it’s a tiny step forward for this country’s parliament.
If ever there was a case of being promoted to your level of incompetence then this appointment, some eight years ago, was it. Living proof in the full glare of publicity of the Peter Principal in action.
I thought that being able to speak in public with authority, style and coherence was a prerequisite for the job, yet I have never witnessed Gorbals Mick demonstrate any of these things.
In his honoured position this man was arrogant, rude and biased against the transparency that our political system so desperately lacks. Clearly a case of ‘jobs for the boys’ I feel.
Remember, Michael Martin was the chairman of the House of Commons Commission, which is responsible for the house’s administration. He was investigating MPs’ allowances, and allowed officials to shred all claim forms and receipts up to April 2005. Nothing to hide there then!
Files containing details of expenses claims worth millions of pounds have been destroyed – which means any evidence of any wrong-doing over the years will never be exposed.
This man was on £138,000 a year, of our money – our taxes pay his wage – and yet he worked against our interest. What he has done in the name of British politics is nothing short of scandalous and in my view criminal.
Good riddance I say!

Ken has had a keen interest in politics since a teenager and remembers the heady days when there was a detectable difference between Labour and Tory policies.
This blog came about as a means to voice an opinion of what could happen and what should happen according to Ken.
